Christmas

We had a lovely time this Christmas. Festus was a good boy and Santa had lots of presents for him.

For a treat he waited to have his picture taken with the crown on his head.

He was patient while I opened one of his gifts. It was wrapped up because leaving it as it was under the tree and going out wasn't a good idea.

He took the toy gently...

he saw he has another gift...

and waited for me to open the box of treats...

and had one or two...

and finally he could play with the toy.

This is why the toy was wrapped. In an hour the toy was everywhere.

As for the Christmas dinner, venison with blueberry.

Saint Nicholas Day

Today is Saint Nicholas Day. As Festus was a good boy he received a few gifts.

He got doggy mince pies and a couple of snowman cookies and a reindeer.
He also received a can of Salmon and raspberry food. Hubby and I joked about it, as this must be a “Masterchef dish for dogs”. He is watching Masterchef with us, for a few minutes.

He loved his salmon dish, he went around the living room wagging his tail after finishing to eat.

6th Birthday

A few days ago it was Festus's 6th birthday. We've celebrated with a play in the park, special meals for everyone and cake, of course we had cake. We had a lot of things to do with work and went in the park when it was quite dark, so I didn't take pictures.

I'm going to share the cake recipe, a Red Velvet doggy cake.

Ingredients for the sponge:
- 1 packed of cooked beetroot of 300g
- 60g self raising flour
- 1 egg
- 1 banana, mashed
- 4 spoons of oil

Ingredients for the cream cheese:
- 100g reduced fat soft cheese
- 1 banana

Preheat the oven at 200C/180C fan.
To make the sponge, mash the beetroot in the food processor with its juice. Tip the beetroot mash in a bowl and add the mashed banana, the flour, the oil and the egg. Mix by hand with a spoon until all the ingredients are blended together.
Scoop the batter into a silicone baking tray. Bake it for 25-30 minutes.

When the cake is baked, take it out of the oven and leave it for a minute. Then remove it for the baking tray and leave it to cool completely on a cooling rack.

To make the cream cheese, mix the soft cheese by hand until it becomes smoother. Then add 1/2 of the banana mashed and mix it thoroughly.
Ice the cake with the cream cheese and decorate it with the remaining slices of banana.

Festus and the horse

Last week we stayed at a cottage in Midlands and Festus took advantage to make a new friend called Danny.

Festus was waiting for us to leave him out to greet the horse.

Danny was coming to the fence as soon as we were stepping out in our garden. He wanted some treats, but he was happy to stay there and "have a chat". We've started by keeping Festus on a lead and it was a very good idea, as he startled the horse with a bow play accompanied by a loud and excited bark. The horse ran to the middle of the field throwing his hoofs. He came back and in a matter of minutes, they were BFF again.

They were sharing treats.

Although Festus wasn't that happy the horse gets more carrots than him. So, he was eating pieces of carrots the horse dropped off.

As having a lot of carrots is not good for him, we told him to wait in the house.

They interacted for one week and it was lovely. Beside the first misunderstanding with the bow play,  they had a great time together.

Cliveden woods

Cliveden woods are only a stone throw away from London. We had a lovely walk a couple of weeks and here are the pictures.

Walking by the Jubilee river

We walked Festus by the Jubilee river on our last trip to London, this month. It was early morning and it felt rather cold for July. By midday the sun was up and shinnying, but Festus was tired and sleeping at that time.

He was a little tired after a run and play with a big branch.

We were lucky that the deer was on the other side of the river.

I've been to a Run or Dye race a few days ago and kept a couple of dye bags for Festus. It was fun.
